Address Resolution Protocol:
- To identify a device on a network, we use MAC and IP addresses.
• To identify a device themselves ARP is used.
• ARP allows a device to associate with MAC and IP addresses.
• When device want to communicate inside a network, they will send a broadcast for entire network to identify a specific device.
• Here, devices use ARP to find the MAC address(as it is associated) of a device to communicate.
How does ARP works?
Each device have cache memory to store information. This cache stores identifiers of the other devices on the network.
In order to map identifiers, ARP sends two types of messages:
1. ARP REQUESTS
2. ARP REPLY
